Everything begins as a question in the margin
Why LikeStyle Labs is organized around governing questions instead of product categories or launch theater.
A name and a polished page can make an idea look finished long before it is. I find it more useful to keep the question that started the work in view.
The question is harder to fake.
What if the plan came before the small talk? That question became Bluedoor, but it existed before the membership model took shape. It points toward a human friction: people want time with other people, yet they can end up spending that time browsing profiles or trying to keep a chat going.
What if creative software left the original intact? That question became part of Afterimage. It is not merely a storage requirement. It changes how safe experimentation feels. A person can try a surprising choice when they know how to get back to the original.
What if local discovery could admit when information is stale? That question became EventDatabase. It refuses the convenient fiction that a page containing a date is the same thing as a current, sourced occurrence.
The Lab gives these questions permission to touch one another. Source preservation in an art tool may illuminate source preservation in a publishing system. Privacy in a social product may clarify what should never be collected by an inquiry form. Freshness in event data may change how a product describes its own readiness.
Leonardo’s notebooks are compelling to me because they do not respect the later boundaries between artist, engineer, anatomist, observer, and dreamer. A drawing of a wing can lead from an observation into a possible mechanism without leaving the page.
LikeStyle Labs is not an attempt to imitate those drawings. It borrows the freedom behind them: look closely, cross the boundary, draw the mechanism, leave room for revision.
The governing question stays visible because it protects the work from becoming only a feature list. When a project drifts, I can return to the original question and ask whether the new work helps answer it.
